LEAWOOD, KANSAS and WARSAW, POLAND - Euronet Worldwide's (Nasdaq: EEFT) subsidiary, e-pay Limited, has launched electronic top-up services in the Polish market, having inked agreements with all three of Poland's mobile operators.
According to a news release, PTK Centertel and Polkomtel S.A. have already launched top-up services, and Polska Telefonia Cyfrowa is expected to launch in fourth quarter 2003.
All three operators have Euronet recharge agreements for ATM and/or handset distribution, and are expanding with point-of-sale-based services through retail locations.
e-pay Limited has installed more than 200 POS terminals to support top-ups in a mobile operator's stores, and has signed a distribution agreement with Geant Polska, one of the country's largest retailers, with 15 hypermarkets throughout Poland.
The top-up service is supported through e-pay's operations center in the UK, which currently processes 8 million transactions per month, according to the release. The prepaid services are based on a proprietary technology platform that features a switching engine offering billing, customer service, trouble reporting, credit management, settlement and reconciliation.
Poland has a total population of 38.3 million. Currently, Poland has 15.1 million mobile subscribers, of which 8.2 million are prepaid, according to mobile operator published reports.
