Euro- and pound-dispensing ATMs installed across London Underground

July 18, 2014

Transport for London and Raphaels Bank have partnered to outfit 70 sites across the London Underground with ATMs that dispense both pounds and euros.

The service has been designed to make it easier for busy London workers, commuters and residents to get their cash for both local use and trips abroad. A survey commissioned by Raphaels found that only 62 percent of travelers bought currency in advance of their holidays.

U.K. cardholders can withdraw sterling for free (subject to charges by the cardholder’s bank or credit card provider) from the new cash points, which are situated in prime locations that include Waterloo, London Bridge, and King's Cross St. Pancras stations. Euro withdrawals are commission-free, with rates that aim to beat the largest currency exchange providers.

"Millions of people use [the TfL] network each year, including going to or from an airport, Eurostar and coach stations, and these machines have been installed to make it easier for people to access the currency they need," said Graeme Craig, TfL director of commercial development.

"Raphaels Bank, like the London Underground, is investing for the future and these brand new ATMs are expected to set new levels of reliability and availability across the Tube network," said Beth Williams, head of ATMs for the bank.
