Emirates NBD, NCR partner for ATM channel revamp

February 21, 2014

NCR Corp. has signed a 5-year, multimillion dollar agreement to provide unified ATM and self-service hardware, software and services for Emirates NBD, the largest banking group in the Middle East. As a result of the deal, Emirates will become the first Middle East FI to adopt the Windows 7 platform across its self-service network.

Emirates NBD will implement NCR software platforms, including APTRA Activate, to create a reliable, secure and consistent consumer experience across all of its self-service ATM channels, the company said in a news release.

In the process, the bank will replace 200 non-NCR ATMs with NCR SelfServ cash dispenser and intelligent deposit ATMs. Currently the bank operates an estate comprising 768 ATM and CDM units.

Emirates will also integrate APTRA interactive services, a software-based technology solution delivered through APTRA Interactive Teller. The system allows a remote teller to communicate with a customer via live, two-way audio and video. As necessary, the teller can take control of the ATM to complete a customer transaction. This allows the FI to perform 95 percent of teller window transactions at the ATM.

"Through these new software platforms, Emirates NBD's customers will experience a faster and more convenient banking experience, making their everyday transactions easier," said Stelios Fragkos, vice president of NCR Financial Services in Africa, Asia and the Middle East.

"Our agreement with NCR will deliver the latest software and hardware technology to help transform the Emirates NBD banking experience so we can sharpen our focus on customers and better understand their needs — a key pillar of our business strategy," said Ali Sajwani, Emirates NBD Group chief information officer.
