Emirates NBD intros interactive teller machines

The Dubai-based FI says it is the first in the region to offer customers the convenience of live teller services outside of regular banking hours.

January 6, 2016

Dubai-based Emirates NBD recently announced that it has become the first bank in the region to offer customers the services of an Interactive Teller Machine.

To date, Emirates NBD has installed one of the NCR Corp. units at its Ibn Battuta mall branch; the FI plans to add four more ITMs at other branch locations over the next few months.

The ITM incorporates a real-time video connection that allows customers to interact with a teller without having to stand in line during traditional banking hours, a press release said.

Customers who use the Emirates NBD ITM gain the benefits of:

  • extended banking hours;
  • the option to use an Emirates ID to conduct transactions;
  • the ability to inquire about bank accounts, cards and loans in a live-teller discussion;
  • coin dispensing for check cashing and cash withdrawals;
  • simultaneous deposit of up to 20 checks, including non-Emirates NBD checks;
  • cash deposit; and
  • larger cash withdrawals than available through standard ATMs.

"For the first time, customers banking at a terminal can interact with a teller via video and conduct transactions never before offered via terminal by a bank in the UAE," said Suvo Sarkar, senior EVP and group head of retail banking and wealth management at Emirates NBD. "With our new ITM, we are offering Emirates NBD customers access to a virtual teller that can provide responsive, intuitive feedback and perform transactions comparable to an in-branch experience ...
