El Paso, Texas, is considering a bill to help prevent crypto ATM fraud. City Rep. Chris Canales introduced the item which will call on crypto ATMs to prominently display anti-fraud warnings, according to a report by El Paso Times.

The proposed ordinance quill require physical signs and digital display with a warning about the instant and irreversible nature of transactions and that government agencies will never instruct customers to pay fines using a crypto ATM. The crypto ATM will need to display the full fraud warning message for 15 seconds.

All warnings must be featured in both English and Spanish.

"While the state of Texas regulates the financial side of cryptocurrency through the Texas Department of Banking, the city of El Paso has a responsibility to protect our residents from fraud and predatory business practices," Canales wrote in a document for the council. "This proposed ordinance does not attempt to ban the machines themselves, which avoids any conflict with state law. Instead, it focuses purely on consumer transparency."
