Encore Networks today announced that payment processor EFX Corporation of Clearwater, Fla., has certified its C2C cellular-based remote access router to link ATMs to EFX data centers. An M2M cellular data service replaces leased data circuits or dial-up analog lines at lower cost while providing greater reliability and flexibility.
Encore's C2C contains a modem that behaves identically to the central-site modem that an ATM calls. The ATM itself cannot detect the change in service. As a router, the C2C offers remote management and security features such as address filtering, message encryption, a firewall, and alarms if equipment is changed or a line is disconnected.
Cellular service allows ISOs to set up an ATM quickly and move it freely, independent of landline service. This mobility allows temporary installation at special event venues. When equipped with an optional power failure alert network notification, the C2C provides short-term backup power, allowing it to report the power outage to a central monitoring point.
Bonnie Dalrymple, EFX's VP of Business Development stated, "We are pleased that the Encore C2C line of wireless routers has passed our rigorous test regimen and is fully certified to connect to our payment processing network. EFX accepts this form of data connection from Verizon's 3G network without any change in configuration at the ATM."
