Dutch company Mactwin Products launches ATM solution to fight explosive gas attacks

February 2, 2009

HETEREN, Netherlands — Gas attacks on ATMs increased dramatically in the Netherlands in 2008, according to Mactwin Products & Software.

And though not all of those attacks were successful, they all caused considerable damage to buildings, ATMs and ATM enclosures. Exploding ATMs also have put passers-by at great physical risk.

In response, Mactwin has developed a gas protection unit that can be installed within the ATM. Mactwin says the GPU spares deployers ATM damage and disruption.

According to a news release, when the GPU's sensors detect an explosive gas, an intelligent controller releases a special explosion suppression chemical that changes the makeup of the explosive gas and renders it ineffective.

With a small footprint and no required ATM adjustment, the GPU can be installed into any ATM at any location, Mactwin says. It features next-generation architecture with modular support for security systems that are already in place, such as ink-and-dye security, camera-surveillance systems, seismic detectors and ATM-intrusion-prevention systems.

The GPU is available in Italy, Australia, Germany and Austria, to name a few.
