Discover joins MasterCard, Visa in extending EMV deadline for fuel pumps

Discover Global Network, which includes Discover Network, Pulse and Diners Club International, has joined MasterCard and Visa in extending the U.S. EMV fraud liability shift date for automated fuel dispensers from October 2017 to October 2020.

In a press release, DGN noted the "distinct challenges" that EMV upgrades pose for automated fuel dispensers, including hardware and technology upgrades, and infrastructure updates — essentially the same factors cited by other networks as reasons for the extension.

The release also said DGN has created an online resource center where merchants, acquirers, issuers and VARs can find resources and materials to help educate and train merchants, employees and customers on the use of chip cards.
