Diebold's Opteva advances into Middle East

October 16, 2003

NORTH CANTON, Ohio - Al Rajhi Banking and Investment Corporation (Alrajhi),which has the largest branch and ATM network in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, has purchased more than 200 ATMs from Diebold, Incorporated (NYSE:DBD), including Opteva, Diebold's newest line.

According to a news release, Diebold operates in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through its distributor Alhamrani Universal (Universal).

Suliman Al Obaid, manager head of the IT Production Division at Al Rajhi said in the release, "The long relationship, the technology and high level support both Diebold and Alhamrani provide gave us great confidence for the success in this deal.  We work as business partners where we share the success."

The units will operate on Diebold's Agilis software platform, an open system that allows multiple vendors' terminals and their respective technologies to co-exist.

Diebold also recently launched its new Opteva family of ATMs at the Raya World 2003 conference in Egypt. According to a release, Diebold received several significant orders from some of Egypt's leading retail banks including Misr International Bank, Banque du Caire, Commercial International Bank and Credit Agricole.

Diebold operates in Egypt through its distributor Raya Integration.

At the conference, a Diebold Opteva 72 front-loading ATM was connected to the National Bank of Egypt's (NBE) existing ATM network, allowing delegates to withdraw and deposit cash.

The Opteva family includes a through-the-wall, walk-up ATM and a lobby ATM, both with advanced functionality; a through-the-wall and lobby cash dispenser; and a through-the-wall, drive-up ATM.

One feature that is exclusive to Diebold's Opteva family is the Universal Serial Bus (USB 2.0) open architecture, which Diebold says allows financial institutions to more easily and quickly integrate future technologies. The architecture also facilitates faster transactions through high-speed communications with ATM peripherals.

Ihab Abdel Aziz, Raya Integration sales manager, said, "As the Egyptian retail banking sector is currently experiencing tremendous growth and the ATM is seen as a trusted delivery channel, we can see Diebold playing a leading part in shaping this expansion with the new Opteva family."
