Diebold will build new world headquarters in Ohio

April 11, 2011

Diebold Inc. today announced that it will construct a new $100 million world headquarters in the Akron/Canton, Ohio, area, that consolidates five separate Ohio locations under one roof.

The world's third-largest ATM manufacturer based on annual shipments will receive approximately $56 million in loans, tax credits and other incentives from the state of Ohio. And pending approval by relevant state and local government boards, Diebold, which is based in Green, Ohio, will receive $100 million in total related incentives from state and local entities.

To qualify for the incentives, Diebold will need to retain approximately 1,500 jobs in Ohio for 18 years. The company employs approximately 2,000 associates across Ohio with an annual payroll of about $125 million.

"We are committed to strengthening our competitive position, enhancing our role as a global leader in the industries we serve and continuing to serve as a productive member of the community," said Thomas W. Swidarski, president and CEO. "Diebold hosts thousands of global customers and employees at its headquarters during a typical year. A new world headquarters will serve as a true centerpiece to our company as well as the surrounding region and will allow Diebold to continue making a beneficial economic impact on Ohio." Diebold has called Ohio home for 150 years.

The new Diebold corporate campus will comprise the company's headquarters-based operations, research and development, hardware and software engineering functions, and sales and marketing for the company's financial self-service, security and integrated services businesses. In addition, the building will house the company's corporate financial and administrative operations, customer service and event monitoring centers, and employee training and education functions.

Diebold's decision to remain in Ohio is different from the decision NCR Corp. made in 2009. NCR, the world's largest ATM manufacturer based on annual shipments, moved its headquarters to Duluth, Ga., from Dayton, Ohio, after rejecting incentives from Ohio officials to remain.
