QUEBEC -- Diebold Co. of Canada Limited, a subsidiary of Diebold, has furnished upgrades for 65 ATMs (referred to as automated banking machines [ABMs] in Canada) at branches of Le Mouvement des caisses Desjardins, Canada's largest credit union.
The upgrades will, for the first time, enable Sherbrooke residents to load electronic cash onto Mondex smart cards as part of Desjardins' efforts to initiate the Mondex eCash program there.
Sherbrooke is the first region to use the MULTOS smart card operating system, which allows different applications to operate side-by-side on a single card. Desjardins' endeavor will be the first attempt in North America to use Mondex eCash on the MULTOS system.
Diebold upgraded 29 of its 1062ix units in Sherbrooke. Consumers will be able to use the ABMs to load cash directly from their checking or savings accounts onto their eCash card.
As a global technology leader and innovative services provider, Diebold Nixdorf delivers the solutions that enable financial institutions to improve efficiencies, protect assets and better serve consumers.
