Diebold Inc. has reached an agreement to sell its manufacturing operations in Lynchburg, Va., and Lexington, N.C., to Porter's Group LLC pending satisfaction of contractual terms and conditions. The move supports an effort by Diebold to increase efficiency within its supply chain.
A long-time Diebold supplier, Porter's Group specializes in metal fabrication services ranging from light sheet metal to heavy metal elements. The Bessemer City, N.C.-based company acquired Diebold manufacturing operations in Sumter, S.C., in 2006. Porter's will continue to supply products to Diebold from its various locations and will add capacity in Lynchburg to serve other customers.
"This latest agreement with Porter's is part of an ongoing process of consolidating our production activities to build greater efficiency and drive cost improvements within our global supply chain," said Linda Parcher, Diebold vice president and chief supply chain officer.
"In addition, this arrangement will build greater flexibility into our production capacity and enhance our ability to serve our customers. During our long-time collaboration with Porter's, we have come to recognize them as a trusted partner in our North America supply chain operations."
The Lynchburg facility's primary function is fabrication of sheet metal components for ATMs and physical security products. The Lexington operation manufactures physical security products such as safe deposit boxes and bank branch equipment.
