NEW ORLEANS-Diebold, Incorporated (NYSE:DBD) announced that three new concept technologies at BAI's Retail Delivery Conference and Expo, Nov. 19-20.
According to a news release, the demos include Magneprint, a technology that combats ATM card fraud, 3-D imaging at the ATM and Diebold's Thin Client concept ATM software platform. Diebold technologists will be available to answer questions in booth (#2433).
"As the product lifecycles in our industry become shorter, we must be able to meet our customers' needs with optimal solutions," said Thomas W. Swidarski, senior vice president of strategic development and global marketing at Diebold. "This requires the ability to anticipate those needs and perform a solid analysis of technological and market trends."
Magneprint, developed by MagTek, Inc., capitalizes on the magnetic noise pattern inherent in all magnetic stripe cards. Diebold has created special circuitry to read the low-level noise and software to authenticate card use at the ATM and point-of-sale terminals.
"Magneprint is the only technology that completely eliminates the use of cloned ATM magnetic stripe cards," said Diebold's Paul Friedel, vice president of Global Advanced Technology, in the release. "It also effectively eliminates the liability losses due to card-skimming."
Diebold is displaying the concept solution on an Opteva 520 lobby cash dispenser at the show. It will be equipped with an LCD flat panel screen that projects 3-D images to ATM users.
BAI show attendees also will be able to view a demonstration of the Thin Client concept applied to Diebold's open-standard, cross-vendor software platform. The demonstration explores the technical possibilities and potential advantages related to relocating a portion of the ATM software to a server.
"One of the objectives of this demonstration is to discover the potential business advantages of an architecture that enables distributed computing," said Friedel.
The concept behind the Thin Client is to keep software necessary for device operation and control on the ATM, while moving business transaction software to the server level.
