Diebold intros 'intelligent powered' ATM

March 1, 2013

Diebold Inc. today announced the launch of the world's first "intelligent-powered" ATM, the Diebold 429. The machine is equipped with a power management system that automatically switches among three possible power sources — solar panel, alternating current grid and internal battery — in order to maximize ATM uptime, lower total cost of ownership and deliver reliable customer convenience.

Diebold designed the 429 specifically to meet the increasing demand for robust self-service ATMs in urban and rural areas of India where utilities are unreliable or even nonexistent. The machine consumes 40 percent less energy than the previous generation of cash dispensers available in the market.

The Diebold 429 features an optional single-note acceptor that enables small-volume currency deposits and bill payments at the ATM. Security features include an EMV card reader, biometric technology and provision for dual security cameras. Additionally, the machine complies with the latest National Payments Corporation of India regulatory requirements.

"The Diebold 429 ATM was designed, developed and manufactured in India to meet the government's inclusion initiatives to expand banking services across India," said Wico van Genderen, vice president of Diebold Asia Pacific. "Our unique intelligent power management system, low power consumption, advanced performance and security features are a perfect fit for the needs of both the environment and the consumers.

"The Diebold 429 is tailored to enable deployment across a wide range of rural and urban locations previously out of reach, and at the same time provide a high-level of convenience, enhanced security, functionalities, availability and technology innovation our customers come to expect from Diebold."
