BEIJING -- Diebold, Incorporated says it will supply China Construction Bank (CCB) with more than 800 ATMs during 2003.
After providing an initial installation of ATMs to CCB in the first seven months of the year, Diebold will supply another contract to supply the bank with hundreds of additional units of advanced-function ATMs and cash dispensers, according to a news release. All of the terminals will be installed in CCB's nationwide branches before the end of this year.
According to the release, recent business developments with the World Trade Organization will bring more overseas- and Hong Kong-based banks to mainland China, creating a more
competitive market for domestic banks, which will be forced to concentrate more on their core and value-added businesses.
"The new expansion of China Construction Bank's ATM network not only enhances the bank's business, but also expands its new services," said Daniel Hu, managing director of Diebold's Greater China Area. "We are ready to work closely with our customers to develop the necessary applications to enhance their self-service delivery channels and achieve their business goals."
According to the release, CCB plans to offer its cardholders access to bill payment and electronic funds transfer between foreign currency and savings accounts, as well as the ability to review stock transactions, account balances, banking statements and advertisements via the ATM.
In an earlier release, Diebold announced that CCB would pilot 20 of its 3030 Bulk Cash Recyclers in Shanghai. The terminals would allow customers to pay housing loans or process stock transactions. (See related story China Construction Bank to pilot Diebold cash recycler)
