Diebold elects Alan Weber to board of directors

October 3, 2005

NORTH CANTON, Ohio - Diebold Inc. announced in a Sept. 30 news release that Alan J. Weber has been elected to the company's board of directors. Weber assumed his spot on the board Oct. 1. Weber fills the vacancy left by W.R. Timken Jr., who retired from Diebold's board prior to accepting the appointment of U.S. ambassador to Germany.

Diebold's board now has 11 members.

Weber, 56, is retired from U.S. Trust Corp., where he served as chairman and chief executive, and from his membership on the executive committee of The Charles Schwab Corp.

Prior to joining U.S. Trust in October 2002, Weber was vice chairman and chief financial officer at Aetna, Inc. He also has held a number of senior-level positions at Citibank, N.A., where he worked from 1971 to 1998.

Weber currently serves as a director of ComputerRepair.com, an IT services company he helped establish.

He holds a bachelor's degree in economics from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and an M.B.A. from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
