BEIJING-Diebold, Incorporated (NYSE:DBD) announced it has begun installing more than 1,000 of its advanced-function ATMs and cash dispensers at the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC).
According to a news release, ICBC will install most of the new Diebold ATMs in branches in major cities such as Beijing and Shanghai and coastal provinces, such as Zhejiang. The Hunan province will also add more than 100 Diebold ATMs to its local self-service networks.
Currently, all ICBC cardholders in Beijing can buy electricity and pay traffic fines on Diebold ATMs. Moreover, as the trend increases for banks to develop their self-service delivery systems with smart card applications, Diebold and ICBC will continue taking positive steps forward to gradually introduce the Beijing branch's smart card -related services to ICBC branches nationwide.
"Diebold's delivery volume of ATMs accounts for more than 50 percent of the overall annual purchase plan of ICBC," said Daniel Hu, managing director of Diebold's Greater China area. "Diebold's ICBC project team--formed with sales, marketing, manufacturing, support and service engineers--will work as a cohesive unit to ensure the new equipment will be operational for ICBC's customers in a timely manner."
