Datacard, Abanca partner to provide on-the-spot bankcards

With its implementation of a Datacard solution, Abanca Bank becomes the first FI in Spain to offer instant issuance debit, credit and prepaid cards.

Spain's Abanca Bank — an FI with 2.5 million customers — has implemented Datacard solutions for in-branch instant issuance of permanent personalized credit, debit and prepaid cards.

Customers may now go to their local branch to open a new account — or request emergency replacement of a lost or stolen card — and immediately receive a secure activated card that they can use immediately to make purchases or ATM withdrawals.

"We now have the ability to eliminate the traditional waiting period for cards to be delivered through the mail, which improves the overall customer experience," said Eduardo Aldao, innovation director for Abanca Bank.

Rollout of the solution to primary branches began in October and will spread to additional branches in coming months. The end-to-end solution includes Datacard CE870 instant issuance systems and associated supplies, as well as CardWizard instant issuance software and on-site maintenance services.
