Data-security breach calls PCI standards into question
January 28, 2007
Digital Transactions: The December data-security breach of Framingham, Mass.-based retailer The TJX Companies Inc., parent company of T.J. Maxx, Marshalls, and other chains, has called into question the effectiveness of the card industry's effort to establish the Payment Card Industry (PCI) data standards in the retail community.
Although the off-price retailer has not disclosed the number of customers affected, some press reports claim information of about 40 million customers may have been compromised.
