ChoicePoint provides i.d. verification at AmStar ATMs

August 17, 2005

CARROLLTON, Texas - AmStar Systems Inc., a self-service financial kiosk manufacturer, has selected ChoicePoint as a service provider to help the company meet requirements outlined in the Patriot Act of 2001.

According to a news release, ChoicePoint will ensure that AmStar is able to identify customers who used its multifunction ATM by electronically checking identities through an OFAC scan to determine if they are listed with the U.S. Office of Foreign Asset Control as known terrorists. ChoicePoint's unique filtering and delivery capabilities provide information required by the U.S. Patriot Act.

The recent data security breaches in the credit and debit card industry have left the public understandably jittery, said Carole Haynes, vice president of sales and marketing for AmStar. AmStar's processor must meet all regulatory requirements, including the Banking Secrecy Act and the Anti-Money Laundering Act.

After a debit/ATM card is issued, customer information is purged from the AmStar kiosk. Only the card-issuing financial institution maintains customer information, which is kept on secured servers by the processor.

"We are very excited about the highly efficient, automated data retrieval capability that ChoicePoint brings to us," said Robert G. Farris Sr., AmStar's president and chief executive. "This eliminates the need for Amstar's processing unit to acquire and maintain an in-house database."
