Chick-fil-A has become the latest company to report an apparent payment data breach. On Jan. 2, the fast food chain announced it had received reports of potential unusual activity involving payment cards used at a few of its restaurants.

In a statement about the breach, the company said it was still working to determine all of the facts surrounding the incident.

According to the statement, on Dec. 19, payment industry contacts notified Chick-fil-A of suspicious payment card activity that appeared to originate from payment cards used at a few of its restaurants.

"We launched an investigation and are working with leading IT security firms, law enforcement and our payment industry contacts to understand all of the facts," the company said in the statement.

Chick-fil-A sought to reassure customers that they would not be responsible for any fraudulent charges to their accounts, and said the company will arrange for free identity protection services, including credit monitoring, to any affected customer.
