Cardtronics launches membership program aimed at consumers

ATMpass subscribers can get cash at participating locations without having to pay an ATM surcharge.

March 6, 2015

Cardtronics Inc. has launched ATMpass, a membership program that gives consumers a surcharge-free ATM option independent of their financial institution's ATM network.

Subscribers may choose a monthly, quarterly or annual membership at myATMpass.com, and link their ATM card directly to their ATMpass account. When the user initiates a transaction using his or her linked card at an ATMpass ATM, the surcharge for that transaction is waived.

ATMpass members currently have surcharge-free access to more than 5,000 ATMs located in select CVS/pharmacy and Walgreens stores in 38 states plus Washington, D.C.

Cardtronics plans to add ATMs in more retail locations across the country throughout 2015. Users can find their nearest participating ATMpass ATM using the ATMpass locator.

"Having cash access at a surcharge-free ATM in a retail location that is part of their day-to-day life is important to many people," said Cardtronics CMO Tom Pierce. "For consumers who feel limited by their current ATM options, or don't have any surcharge-free ATMs near their home, work or school, ATMpass gives them control over ATM surcharge fees and the freedom to choose convenience."

Although ATMpass membership eliminates fees charged by the ATM owner, it does not cover out-of-network fees that might be charged by the card issuer. Accountholders must check with their FI to find out what fees it charges.
