Houston-based ATM ISO Cardtronics Inc. is taking ATMs to Puerto Rico, according to a news release issued by the company this morning.
Cardtronics has reportedly signed its first Puerto Rican ATM customer, To Go Stores, and is placing ATMs at 11 of the retailer's 26 stores in the country. By 2010, Cardtronics expects to have its ATMs in 15 To Go Stores locations.
Cardtronics' portfolio comprises more than 33,000 ATMs in the United States, the United Kingdom and Mexico.
Jorge Fernandez, a senior vice president at Cardtronics, says Cardtronics' entrance into the Puerto Rican market is being backed by a strong retailer partnership:
To Go Stores is highly respected throughout Puerto Rico as one of the top convenience and fuel retailers on the island. The highly visible, high-traffic locations are perfectly suited to ATM placement. By partnering with such a respected retail brand in Puerto Rico, Cardtronics continues to execute its strategy of placing ATMs with established, influential multiunit retailers that lead their categories.
Brian Archer, Cardtronics' chief marketing officer, says the ATM placements in Puerto Rico represent "a natural extension" of Cardtronics' continued efforts to enter profitable new markets outside the United States.
