Cardtronics, BBVA Compass strike ATM licensing deal

Cardtronics Inc. and BBVA Compass have wrapped up a contract that will allow the bank to put its brand on more than 300 Cardtronics-owned ATMs in HEB stores across Texas.

The deal represents an increase of nearly 50 percent in the size of BBVA's ATM network in Texas, bringing its total there to nearly 1,000 machines that the FI's customers can use surcharge-free.

"This agreement provides us an opportunity to deliver convenient banking options for HEB shoppers and BBVA Compass customers alike," said Gabriel Palafox, director of multichannel development at BBVA Compass. "Customers want access to their money on their terms. Having bank-branded ATMs in high-traffic locations like HEB stores is a great way for us to meet those needs."

Prior to the HEB agreement, BBVA Compass branded 268 Cardtronics-owned ATMs in convenience and grocery stores throughout Colorado and Texas.
