HOUSTON -- Cardtronics, the largest ATM owner/operator in the United States, has acquired New Hyde Park, N.Y.-based BAS Communications Inc.'s ATM portfolio, according to a news release. The acquisition includes more than 450 ATMs in the New York City metropolitan area.
Boston-based Tremont Capital Group Inc., a strategic planning and merger and acquisition advisory firm, facilitated the deal.
"We are pleased to expand our already significant presence in the boroughs of New York City," said Cardtronics president and chief executive Jack Antonini. "These high-traffic locations are the type of merchant-clients that formed the foundation of Cardtronics from its beginnings and remain the heart of our business."
The majority of the machines are located in non-chain, independent grocery stores primarily in Brooklyn, the Bronx, upper Manhattan, Queens and on Staten Island. Approximately 97 percent of the ATMs are turnkeys, with the remainder being merchant-owned and managed.
