AMARILLO, Texas -- Amarillo authorities are investigating a string of ATM robberies, all committed by a brazen thief or thieves who steal vehicles, then used them to crash through the front door of a business and make off with a machine.
Police told Amarillo's KAMR-TV that more than 10 such ATM thefts have been committed in the past month and a half.
The latest theft occurred on July 6 at Madison's Convenience Store. Madison's owner Bryan Madison told the TV station, "We're just trying to put it back together piece by piece, so we can continue to operate our business."
The store is still in business, but trying to recover from the double whammy of losing its ATM and its front doors. "It was just a total wreck. It looked like a small tornado had come through the front of the building," Madison said.
Madison's machine apparently was not bolted to the floor.
