BMO Bank of Montreal has announced plans to upgrade its network of 2,200 ATMs to add intelligent-deposit touch screens; enable multideposit transactions; and present images of scanned checks and banknotes on screen and print them on transaction receipts.

According to a news release, the new technology initiative with NCR Corp. is built on the NCR Cx banking software platform and includes:

  • Scalable Deposit Module technology that lets customers deposit five banknotes and two checks in less than 60 seconds;
  • single-slot deposit for simultaneous cash and check acceptance;
  • storage capacity of 2,000 notes and 1,600 checks;
  • Dynamic Deskew, which allows checks and notes to be straightened without stopping or slowing down; and
  • high-quality image processing that allows scanned checks and banknotes to be shown on screen and printed on the transaction receipt.

"Our ATM network ranks among the most popular method of daily banking for customers," said Steven Nowaczyk, head of the North American ATM channel at BMO Financial Group. "The new ATMs will give our customers enhanced convenience, security and performance, making the process intuitive, faster and more dependable."

Installation of the new ATMs will begin in locations across Ontario next summer, the release said.
