Bling Nation expands mobile payments to Stanford University

September 27, 2010

Bling Nation, a Palo Alto, Calif.-based mobile payments company, announced yesterday that it has expanded its services to nearby Stanford University.

Stanford students who sign up for Bling Nation through PayPal, now can make purchases at on-campus merchants and off-campus retailers by tapping their mobile phones at the point-of-sale.

Students first must attach a BlingTag, which is a small microchip sticker, to the back of their mobile phones. The stickers turn the phones into digital wallets, Bling Nation officials said. BlingTags are linked to PayPal accounts, and there are 6,000 active BlingTags in Palo Alto, according to the company.

“We saw a tremendous surge of interest and participation during our introductory program with PayPal in Palo Alto, and look forward to continue the momentum as we expand our services to Stanford University and beyond,” said Meyer Malka, CEO of Bling Nation.
