BBVA, Wincor Nixdorf intro cash recycling in Spain

The financial institution and manufacturer have teamed up to install 800 Cineo 4080 systems this year.

March 10, 2016

BBVA and Wincor Nixdorf are partnering to upgrade the bank's ATM network with 800 new Cineo cash recycling systems. BBVA is a pioneer in Spain with the solution, according to a press release.

The Cineo's banknote recycling capability means that banknotes deposited by customers can later be dispensed for cash withdrawals, reducing the time and expense required for cash replenishment.

BBVA and Wincor Nixdorf will roll out Cineo 4080 recycling machines at selected branches during 2016.

In addition, software improvements have been made to all BBVA ATMs based on focus groups designed to determine the functions customers consider the most relevant.

The new ATMs offer a wide range of functions that make them unique in the Spanish market, the release said. For example, when customers insert their card, they can see and access almost all of the products they have signed up for, not just the ones linked to that card.

Current accounts are displayed using the alias selected by the user, which means that the information is provided clearly, thus dispensing with the need to memorize IBAN numbers.

BBVA also offers customers the option of identifying themselves using near field communication technology. Users can instantly access their products simply by touching a contactless card, and this will soon also be possible using mobile phones with this technology.

"Thanks to the changes made in BBVA ATMs, we are moving forward with our omnichannel strategy, making them another window to the bank, which our customers can use to work with their products, when, where and how they want," said Crespo, head of digital banking and channel technology at BBVA Spain.

"We are delighted to be working with BBVA to set up this new technology system, which puts the bank at the cutting edge of innovation," said Javier López Bartolomé, president of the America and Iberia regions at Wincor Nixdorf.
