Banque de France modernizes banknote processing with G&D solution

May 12, 2014

Banque de France, the French central bank, is modernizing its cash centers and increasing its level of automation with help from Giesecke & Devrient. The company has been appointed main supplier of banknote processing solutions for the bank.

The central element of the banknote processing solution is the BPS M7 system by G&D. Modular construction allows configuration of the system to meet specific customer requirements. The solution features a throughput of up to 120,000 banknotes per hour (2,000 banknotes per minute).

“[W]e presented the client with a technically innovative and reliable single-source solution that handles every step of the process, from automatically filling the system with banknotes to the final banding and packaging of banknote bundles,” said Florian Reithmeier, head of the banknote processing division at G&D.

He said that features such as the continuous feeding of banknotes, a sophisticated NotaScan sensor system, and easy-to-use NotaPack packing technology facilitate adaptation of the processing solution to conditions in Banque de France cash centers with regard to floorspace and weight.
