BankDhofar teams with G&D on instant issue EMV cards

BankDhofar, based in the Sultanate of Oman, has selected the Convego System from Giesecke & Devrient for instant issuance of EMV-enabled debit cards. This will allow the bank's customers to receive and use their debit cards immediately after opening a connected account.

Convego System Instant Issuance will provide  BankDhofar with a specially tailored all-in-one instant issuance system for its debit card portfolio. The solution is user-friendly and provides a high level of customer secrurity through a wide range of encryption methods and online-only personalization.

G&D also will supply predesigned EMV cards that can be personalized in-house and issued directly to the customer. Individually encrypted customer details are sent from the data processing center directly to the chip in the debit card, producing personalized cards that have all the required security features.

Within a specified period of time, G&D will set up all BankDhofar branches with software for the Convego system. The Munich-based company also will supply the bank with EMV cards and provide support for the instant issuance service.

"This definitely represents added value for our customers, and enables us to reduce our costs," said Abdul Hakeem Al Ojaili, general manager of corporate services at BankDhofar. "Customers having to come back to the branch for a second time to collect their debit cards will become a thing of the past, and by providing technologically driven value-added services we can increase overall efficiency in our branches."
