Bank of America says automated deposits at ATMs have some failures
June 21, 2009
Hartford (Conn.) Courant: Bank of America says its intelligent-deposit ATMs are a hit, but admits that hundreds of customers have continued to have trouble each month depositing checks or cash at the new ATMs. Bank of America customers in Connecticut and other states have complained about their debit cards being shredded, checks being rejected and deposited cash not being registered in their accounts. Bank of America is in the process of converting 13,800 of its 18,000 ATMs to envelope-free deposit-taking terminals. So far, about 12,800 of the machines have been converted, said bank spokeswoman Anne Pace. Other banks also are converting their ATMs, while some have programs that allow customers to make check deposits using home scanners. Pace said 99.95 percent of the 10 million to 99 million ATM transactions concluded at Bank of America were successful in the past month.
