Bank Mandiri, Indonesia's largest financial institution measured by assets, is boosting its footprint with a major expansion of its ATM network. According to a press release, 3,375 new Wincor Nixdorf machines were installed between April and June.

The 17,000 systems that now make up that Bank Mandiri ATM network represent a major service channel for the bank, with a steep increase in the number of transactions, the release said.

In addition to providing cash, the ATMs provide a service for topping up prepaid passcards for toll roads, which are common in Indonesian, especially in the capital city Jakarta. The software used to top up the cards at the bank's ATMs was developed by Wincor Nixdorf, which will also be responsible for the ongoing further development of the application, the company said.

Bank Mandiri aims to deploy more value-added services in the future, as well as to migrate selected teller functions to the self-service channel for greater efficiency.

"We can offer all the necessary services and functions on the systems," a Bank Mandiri spokesperson said in the release. "Examples include the e-toll offering or intelligent security solutions that protect our customers against various manipulation attempts on the ATM."
