Perth, Australia, has experienced a rash of ATM bombings recently. Early on Monday morning, three ATMs were bombed, bringing the total to six within just two weeks.
According to a report by Perth Now, authorities are investigating whether the most recent incidents are related to others in New South Wales. They said the thieves apparently do not have a sophisticated knowledge of explosives and have been taking a "trial and error" approach, creating more powerful blasts with each attempt.
"We are very concerned because the offenders are using unconventional methods and do not appear to know what they are doing,'' inspector Bill Munnee told Perth Now. "They've been successful in some (blasts), but not so successful with others. It's just a matter of time before someone is seriously injured or dies.''
Police are working with the Australian Banking association to increase security at ATMs, the article said.
