NORTH YORKSHIRE, England - The volume and value of transactions at United Kingdom ATMs are expected to break all previous records this Christmas, according to a news release issued by Link Interchange Network Ltd.
On the basis of transactions seen to date, U.K.-based ATM network Link is forecasting record cash withdrawals of more than £16.5 billion (U.S. $28.9 billion) this month.
On the busiest shopping days, Edwin Latter, Card Scheme director for Link, said the network is expected to handle more than 1 million transactions per hour. "By contrast, January is the quietest month for cash withdrawals, with amounts withdrawn 15 percent to 20 percent lower than in December."
Cash withdrawals are expected to be 5 percent higher this December than in December 2004.
