ATM fees to come under MP scrutiny

Scotsman.com: A committee of MPs was today investigating the growth of fee-charging cash machines, amid claims customers are being charged £140 million (U.S. $270 million) a year to withdraw their own money.

Members of the Commons treasury select committee are conducting an investigation into when and where the information about the charges that are levied is displayed on ATMs.

There are 55,346 cash machines in the UK, of which around 40 percent - 22,171 - charge a fee for withdrawals.
