ATM device prevents ram raids at Nationwide in U.K.

ESSEX, England — The Acketts Anti-Theft Device plinth was put to the test recently when two ATMs at Nationwide Building Society's Small Heath, Birmingham, branch were attacked April 3. The ATMs were raided using a large forklift, but the machines could not be removed.
According to a news release, the ATM was protected by the Acketts ATD, which absorbed all the stresses generated during the attack, with the steel stretching and absorbing the impact and force.
"We are extremely impressed by the performance of the ATD," said Darren Wilson of Nationwide Group Security.
Nationwide now routinely installs the Acketts ATDs, Acketts says.
"The performance of the Acketts Anti-Theft Device was particularly impressive (in this case), because of the heavy machinery used in this attack," Acketts said. Manitou forklifts have lifting heights between 5 (meters) and 17 meters, with lifting loads of up to 16 tons at 10 meters."
