Allpoint Network, the world’s largest surcharge-free ATM network, has added 2,500 ATMs in Mexico, said Ben Psillas, president of the Bethesda, Md.-based company.
Cardtronics Mexico, which is partly owned by Allpoint’s parent company Cardtronics Inc. and several Mexican banks, has joined Allpoint, Psillas said. Cardtronics Mexico’s ATMs are deployed in the country’s leading retail stores, including OXXO.
The agreement between Cardtronics Mexico, which is based in Mexico City, and Allpoint will serve tourists and business travelers, Psillas said.
“More than 4.3 million U.S. tourists traveled to Mexico in 2010 alone,” he said. “Providing these tourists, as well as more frequent business travelers, convenient, surcharge-free ATM access while they travel is consistent with the Allpoint promise.” The ATMs offer both Spanish and English language options, and the machines carry the Allpoint logo.
With Allpoint’s expansion into Mexico, the company now offers surcharge-free ATM access in the United States, United Kingdom and Australia.
Cardtronics, the world’s largest ATM independent sales organization, is based in Houston.
