African distributor aims for 3K installed ATM base in 2014

May 29, 2014

Inlaks Computers, a Lagos, Nigeria-based strategic partner of Nautilus Hyosung, has announced its intention to achieve an installed base of 3,000 ATMs in the country by the end of this year. The goal represents a 30 percent increase over Inlaks' current total of 2,099 installed ATMs.

According to the Nigerian publication Business Day Online, the announcement came at a recent seminar hosted by Inlaks to introduce the Hyosung 8600 with cash-recycling capability.

Inlaks managing director Femi Adeoti said the machines offer improved security features that the nation's central bank is pushing deployers to adopt.

“The new ATM comes with two cameras; it is biometric ready, which supports the Know Your Customer policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria by capturing user’s fingerprints; [and] an anti-skimming device which is inbuilt and makes it impossible to clone ATM cards,” BDO reported.

Nigeria is in the midst of implementing a nationwide “cashless” policy that seeks to coax unbanked citizens in a cash-based economy to keep their money in bank accounts, increasing their reliance on debit cards and withdrawing cash from ATMs only as needed.
