Abu Dhabi FI adopts NCR voice-guided ATM technology

November 14, 2016

Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank will add NCR voice-guided technology to 20 ATMs to enable visually impaired customers to conduct unassisted ATM transactions. The new ATMs will be available to customers in December 2016.

NCR Corp. will also upgrade the ATMs with Emirates ID card readers that will allow customers to reset their EIDA PIN at the ATM — a requirement of the Emirates ID Authority — eliminating the need for a branch visit.

NCR ATMs are equipped with features for the visually impaired that include audio with on-screen messages, and the option to blank out the ATM screen in order to prevent bystanders from shoulder surfing during a user transaction.

"In line with the Central Bank's commitment to the visually impaired, we are pleased to be partnering with NCR in our efforts to better meet the needs of visually impaired customers, and to empower them to take control of their transactions and have secure access to our ATM services," said Philip King, ADIB head of retail banking, in a release. "ADIB continues to look for ways to utilize innovative technology to bring convenience and flexibility to our customers' everyday banking transactions, and deliver a superior customer experience every time."

Approximately 98 percent of all cash transactions by ADIB's 900,000 customers are conducted through the bank's ATMs, which offer additional services that include utility bill payment, money transfer and charitable donations.

According to the release, ADIB also was the first institution to introduce biometric ATMs in the region, in cooperation with the Emirates ID Authority.
