The Mariana Trench lies in the Pacific Ocean 189 miles southwest of Guam and 6.6 miles straight down.
Recently, James Cameron (a director known for the modestly successful movies "Titanic" and "Avatar") spent time there filming the world's deepest seabed, where he and his crew identified 68 new species. Sixty-eight.
Which goes to show that if you want access to something everyone else in the world doesn't already know about, you have to dive deep.
This is exactly the opportunity on offer at the second annual ATM & Mobile Innovation Summit, Sept. 10–12 at the Capitol Hilton in Washington.
This year's summit will kick off with a two-and-a-half hour workshop that investigates issues around ATM and mobile compliance. Legal and compliance experts from both worlds will address issues that lie beneath the surface-level chatter about these two converging technologies:
Innovation
As a keynote session about the convergence of virtual currency, ATMs and mobile payments will examine the directions in which Bitcoin and other currencies are headed, and the ways they'll drive cash machine deployers to innovate.
This session will feature executives with exhaustive knowledge of the topic:
Research
In a town hall-style session, Connie Theien, VP of industry relations at the Federal Reserve will present a sneak preview of the Fed's forthcoming "faster payment" study. Additional perspective will be provided by panelists with deep knowledge of the payments industry:
Security
In a showcase keynote presentation, Shawn Henry, president of CrowdStrike Services and a retired FBI executive assistant director, will present a disturbing picture of current and developing threats from the criminal world of hackers, as well as a clear-eyed assessment of vulnerabilities within the financial services IT community.
CrowdStrike security team members will follow Henry's presentation with a live demonstration of a hacking exploit, and measures an enterprise can take to protect itself.
Regulation
The signature session of the ATM & Mobile Innovation Summit features an open-floor Q&A session that allows delegates to engage directly with insiders from U.S. regulatory agencies:
