Interac Association joins European ATM Security Team

Interac joins the ATM Industry Association as a non-SEPA member

February 1, 2011

The Interac Association has joined the European ATM Security Team (EAST) as the national representative member of Canada.

While EAST, which has its headquarters in Edinburgh, Scotland, focuses on the Single Euro Payments Area (EURO), the Interac Association will participate in EAST as a non-SEPA member.

Formed in 1984, the Interac Association is responsible for the development and operations of the Inter-Member Network, a national payment network that allows Canadian residents to access funds through ATMs and at point-of-sale locations.

Interac members include banks, trust companies, caisses populaires, merchants, credit unions, merchants, technology and payment-related companies.

The European ATM Security Team has national representation in 25 SEPA countries. Canada and Russia participate in EAST as non SEPA members.

The European ATM Security Team provides statistics on ATM-related fraud and physical attacks on the machines. Interac is based in Toronto, Canada.
