Infosheet ATM Jackpotting protection

July 26, 2019

ATM jackpotting is a type of logical attack where the criminal uses malware, sometimes also with his own black box hardware, to cash-out the ATM and empty it of cash. Since the first reported attacks in 2012 in Mexico and Brazil, jackpotting has spread to a growing number of countries globally including the UK, Russia, Malaysia, Romania, Hungary, Spain, India, Ukraine, Denmark, Thailand, Italy, France Norway and the US. One jackpotting attack usually targets 20 to 60 ATMs in a network, so cash losses can be significant.
