Wincor Nixdorf uses Cisco core technology to provide protection for the self-service channel
November 20, 2007
PADERBORN, Germany - With its Platform Security Agent (PSA), Wincor Nixdorf says it has set a new standard for protecting self-service systems against malicious software attacks.
Using core technology delivered by the Cisco Security Agent (CSA), Wincor Nixdorf has created an advanced protection solution dedicated to the specific needs of self-service terminals and their operating environment. Unlike traditional protection solutions, such as virus scanners and personal firewalls that deliver protection based on knowing all possible threats, Wincor Nixdorf's PSA provides protection based on the premise of "knowing what is allowed and excluding everything else." Signatures are not required, thus freeing up resources.
Offering unmanaged terminal-based protection, PSA can be integrated into customers' security procedures without the need for additional hardware or software infrastructures. The solution protects not only against unsolicited software distribution, installation and usage, but also against the use of unauthorized hardware such as USB sticks, removable devices and keyboards.
PSA delivers the highest possible viable protection, using the Cisco Security Agent, which is Common Criteria (CC) EAL2 compliant, as its core.
"With the Cisco Security Agent, you don't have to experience the effects of an attack before you can stop it," said Michael Ganser, vice president and managing director of Cisco Systems Germany." This is the best example of a new breed of computer security products that take network defense beyond the realm of the current generation of anti-virus protection."
