Leo Prime Payment Solutions of Chennai, India, has developed a line of ATMs with patent-pending crime deterrence features built right in.
According to a report by The Hindu Business Line, The company's "intelligent ATM" delivers a punishing, but nonfatal, electric shock to any would-be thief who attempts to carry it off.
In case said crook should take precautions against receiving an electrical jolt, the machine is also equipped to automatically pull down the rolling door of the kiosk that houses it.
And to protect legitimate ATM users from muggers, the kiosk features a panic button that sends a distress call to police and the ATM service provider.
The machine can be wall-mounted or free-standing and is portable for use as a mobile unit, the Business Line report said. Mobile in the case of the ATM deployer, that is.
