Wells Fargo to use Carreker software to archive check images

April 23, 2003

DALLAS -- Carreker Corporation (Nasdaq: CANIE), says that Wells Fargo (NYSE: WFC) has acquired the Carreker suite of image processing archive and capture software, signaling its intent to deploy imaging technology across its enterprise.

According to Doug Halverson, Carreker's vice president of sales, Carreker's software will be used to capture images of checks received from outside parties, including the Federal Reserve, other banks and end clearings. Carreker's software will also be used to archive all images, including those generated at Wells Fargo branches and ATMs.

Wells announced in October that it was using NCR's ImageMark Capture software to capture images generated at its branches and ATMs.

"Check imaging technology has already enabled us to deliver significant value-add to a broad base of our corporate customers," said Joe Ervin, Wells Fargo's executive vice president, Wholesale Operations, in a news release. "This latest decision supports Wells Fargo's commitment to provide similar capabilities and services across our entire customer base."

Mitch Christensen, Wells Fargo's executive vice president, Payment Strategies, said in the release, "Beyond the obvious benefits of exchanging images in lieu of paper, we will be truncating the paper at the earliest point of presentment, detecting fraud earlier in the deposit flow, and image-enabling exceptions and returns."

According to the release, more than 50 percent of U.S. check volume will be archived using Carreker's technology after Wells Fargo implements its system.
