Visa offers ATM key management seminars

February 6, 2003

In 2003 Visa is offering a series of one-day key management workshops and a three-day auditor's workshop that will offer up-to-date information on the management of cryptographic keys used in ATMs, PIN pads, cash dispensers and hardware security modules.

According to Visa, the workshops are for staff involved in the management or operation of devices that accept cardholder PINs -- including ATMs -- as well as for people who need practical knowledge about the elements of data encryption standard (DES) cryptography and the management of secret encryption keys.

Topics covered include Visa's PIN security program, the trust model for PIN-based transactions, knowledge control, basic cryptographic methods, the cryptographic key life cycle and operational best practices.

In addition to material covered in the one-day workshops, the three-day auditor's workshop includes information on current and future threats, an in-depth review of the 35 Visa PIN security requirements and case studies.

Dates and locations for 2003 workshops are: April 16 at the New Orleans Hyatt Regency; May 21 at the Kansas City, Mo., Hyatt Regency Crown Center; June 18 at Visa U.S.A.'s Foster City, Calif., headquarters; Sept. 17 at the Philadelphia Doubletree Inn; and Nov. 4 at Visa's Latin America Regional Office in Miami.

The three-day auditor's workshop is set for Aug. 26-28 at Boston's Omni Parker Hotel.

Cost is $495 per person for the one-day workshop and $1,395 for the auditor's workshop.
