Visa has debuted a stablecoin prefunding pilot via its Visa Direct payments platform. Through the service, businesses can prefund the platform with stablecoins instead of fiat currency, according to a press release.

Visa aims to provide faster and more flexible global payouts for financial institutions. This will improve liquidity management across borders. Visa is running the program with select partners, with plans for a broader pilot rollout in 2026.

"Cross-border payments have been stuck in outdated systems for far too long," Chris Newkirk, president, commercial and money movement solutions, Visa, said in the release. "Visa Direct's new stablecoins integration lays the groundwork for money to move instantly across the world, giving businesses more choice in how they pay."

Recipients can receive payment in local currency. In other stablecoin news, Kazakhstan unveiled an official Evo stablecoin for its citizens.
