Toronto-based Hudson's Bay Company announced on Sunday that it had become aware of a data security issue involving customer payment card data at certain Saks Fifth Avenue, Saks OFF 5TH, and Lord & Taylor stores in North America.
A press release from HBC said there had been no indication so far that the breach affected the company's e-commerce or other digital platforms, or its Hudson's Bay, Home Outfitters, or HBC Europe divisions.
HBC said that it had identified and contained the problem, and would offer free identity protection services to affected customers.
"The company is working rapidly with leading data security investigators to get customers the information they need, and the investigation is ongoing," the release said. "HBC is also coordinating with law enforcement authorities and the payment card companies."
According to a report by the New York Post this was the second breach for HBC within the past 12 months. Gemini Advisory, the company said to have discovered the breach, attributed the most recent attack to a hacker or hackers going by the name of JokerStash or Fin7 who sent phishing emails to company employees.
