UnionPay partners with Cambodian central bank to promote mobile payments

Union Pay International has partnered with the National Bank of Cambodia to promote QR code mobile payments. Cambodian residents can now use their e-wallets for cross-border payments in countries such as China, according to a press release.

In particular, the bank will integrate UnionPay into its e-wallet mobile payments provider Bakong. Customers can use the Bakong app for payments both in Cambodia, China and for cross-border purchases.

The goal of the partnership is to improve the mobile payment experience of UnionPay cardholders in and outside of Cambodia as Chinese tourists can also use this service, according to the release.
